Provincial Training Officer

 

 

CASARA Policy Manual - a number of policies relate specifically to training.

These include:

CASARA Training Manual

Policy T-080 Currency Training (amended 1 Nov 03)

SPOTTERS: · 3 hours academic training
· 2 flights of not less than 1 hour each.
NAVIGATORS: · 4 hours academic training
· 4 flights of not less than 1 hour each
· 3 ELT homings at least one must be an aural null
· 4 search patterns appropriate to your area of operation.
PILOTS: · 3 hours of academic training
· a minimum of 24 hours flying as PIC, made up of 6 flights of not less than 1 hour each that must be CASARA SAR flying, (training or actual), and the remainder can be actual SAR operations, CASARA
SAR training, or non-CASARA flying
· 3 ELT homings at least one must be an aural null
· 4 search patterns appropriate to your area of operation.
  NOTE: These are MINIMUM requirements

Initial Training

Spotter Initial Training
Academic training may include:

Search Patterns, Scanning and Signs
Search Height and Visibility vs Speed
Spotting Requirements - CASARA Aircraft - Military Aircraft
Safety Procedures - Aircraft Types - Clothing - Operating Conditions

Recommended:

Restricted Radio Licence
Crew Resource Management
Basic wilderness survival
Aviation Medicine
First Aid/CPR
Two training flights of not less than one hour each
Spotter Academic Test (if applicable)
Spotter Certification Flight and Practical Test (if applicable)

Navigator Initial Training
Academic Training may include:

Emergency procedures
Aviation Medicine

Map preparation, including grid reference systems
Nav flight Ops, including NOCL preparation and transmission
Nav flight planning
Nav search patterns, including electronic search technique
GPS Nav techniques
Equipment use and maintenance
Meteorology and aviation weather
AIM/CFS review

Recommended:

Crew Resource Management
Basic wilderness survival
First Aid/CPR
Four training flights of not less than one hour each, including 1 ELT homing, 1 Aural Null, and 4 different search patterns
Navigator Certification Flight
Restricted Radio Licence
Safety Course

Pilot Initial Training

Safety Officer briefing
PDM course
Emergency procedures
GPS flight techniques
Pilot flight Ops
Meteorology and aviation weather
AIM/CFS/FSS review
Search patterns and electronic search technique
Insurance, MOU and CA review
Map preparation and navigation review
Equipment use and maintenance

Recommended:

Crew Resource Management
Basic wilderness survival
First Aid/CPR
Aircrew written test (if applicable)
Six training flights as PIC of not less than one hour each,including 1 ELT homing, 1 Aural Null, and 4 different search patterns
Certification Flight, including a demonstration of ELT homing
Restricted Radio Licence

Policy T-070 Supplementary Training (amended 12 Dec 00)

All CASARA members should receive supplementary training to enhance their SAR knowledge and to improve operational safety. The following is a partial list of special courses and training:
